MySQL
MySQL is a very common open source database environment.
MySQL server is a free software under the General Public License (GPL). Since MySQL AB/Sun own the full Copyright to the source codes, the software is also available with a commercial license (dual license system).
In addition to the numerous Unix variations, Mac OS X and Linux, MySQL also runs on Windows, OS/2 and i5/OS (former OS/400). Since early 2008, Symbian version also exists.
Several databases can be allocated to a database management system engine.
Multiple indexes can be created in a database that do not have to be the same type. The maximum size of the indexes is only limited by the operating system.
A preferred field of use for MySQL is data storage for web services. MySQL is often used with the web server Apache and PHP.
In combination with the MySQL module, SEP sesam makes online backups of the database environment possible by using the existing backup methods of MySQL. The excellent graphical integration for the database and simple handling for restores make administration a lot easier.
Benefits of using the SEP sesam MySQL Module
- No additional disk space for temporary storage of backup files on the server is necessary
- Task definition and restore handled graphically
- Multi-Instance Support
- Central Storage management via SEP sesam
- Uniform processes for the entire backup environment saves administrative work
- Full administration ability for DB mechanisms remain intact
